Shannon McQuade, LCSW, LMT, CHT
Before I discuss my professional qualifications, I just want to share that I personally know what it's like to be on a healing journey. It's not easy, but it's important and fulfilling. I believe we have a responsibility to do it. For ourselves and for others. The name Real Caring came from hearing my clients refer to me many times as being real and caring. I feel honored to be experienced in this way and I endeavor to continue to earn this compliment. It has been my privilege to have worked with so many people over the years who've had the courage to do this healing work.
My experience in mind and body integration began in 1994 with my first yoga class after a major foot operation. I was so amazed at my body’s ability to heal with simple awareness that I had to learn more. This pursuit landed me in massage therapy school in 1998 where I was trained in various modalities including aromatherapy and Traditional Chinese Medicine and I acquired an understanding of the the concept of yin and yang and the wisdom in finding balance in all things.
For a period of time, I worked as a massage therapist as the owner of Renew Spa and Wellness, and I had the opportunity to immerse myself into the workings of the physical aspect of healing. I was able to expand my experience physical wellness as a Program Director for the American Cancer Society, where I spent several years developing programs and collaborating with other organizations to promote health through lifestyle change using traditional and complementary methods. During this time, I received my Bachelors Degree in Health Administrative Services/Health Promotion, a Masters in Social Work, and certification in Addiction Counseling. In 2007, I was trained by the EMDR Institute in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and have been truly stunned at the outcomes I've seen in clients. In 2017/2018, I completed a 200 hr Yoga Teacher Training program at the University of Utah. In 2018/2019 I completed training programs with the Milton Erickson Foundation and the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and became certified in March 2020. Over the course of the pandemic that year, I was trained in psychedelic assisted psychotherapy through Salt City Psychedelic Training and Research and Polaris Insight Center, specializing in Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy. I continue to keep up to date with evidence based therapeutic modalities.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of working extensively with individuals, groups, and families at renowned treatment centers in Utah including the Cirque Lodge in Sundance, the Journey Recovery Centers in Sandy, and Inspire Fit Resorts in Park City. I’ve been in full-time private practice since 2008. I launched Real Caring Integrative Therapy in 2013 to include other therapists to work with me in a group practice. In 2019, I transitioned back to solo practice to allow myself more time to dedicate to clinical work.
